David N. Dean

David Norman Dean, born October 28, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 14, 2015, surrounded by his family and beloved pets. He is survived by his wife, Shelia Brooks Dean, and his children, Darinda and her boyfriend James, Diana and her husband Ed, Delores and her husband Mark, David and his girlfriend Julie, his youngest son Daniel, and his youngest daughter Casey Duncan-Triplett and her husband, Justin, a special young man that Dave considered his son, Billy Dunham and his wife, Selena, and Dave’s stepson Dennis and his wife, Laura. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. David was predeceased by his parents, Beulah Sylvester Mock and William Ulrich, his brother Leroy and his sisters, Joan, Gloria, Verna and Mary. David also enjoyed the company of his many nieces, whom he has always held close to his heart. David served in the United States Army from 1961-64 where he earned his rifle and carbine sharpshooter badges during his service, with a squad he fondly talked about as the “Untrainables”. He spent much of his service in Germany during the construction of the Berlin Wall. After settling in Tennessee with his best friend, Jan, Dave started D&D Remodeling in Lexington, which flourished for many years. Many beyond count have known the unmatched workmanship, precision and heart that Dave put into each design he touched, truly a talented man. Whether tinkering in the back yard or working in his woodshop, every project was a masterpiece. When Dave retired, he and his wife Shelia enjoyed remodeling their home, including a stunning koi pond, and visiting with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They also rescued, fostered and spoiled many dogs and cats who will all miss him dearly. Services will be held Wednesday, June 17 at 1 PM at Reed's Chapel - Lexington with visitation beginning at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorial contributions to the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, c/o Gifts Processing, PMB 407727, 2301 Vanderbilt Place, Nashville, TN 37240-7727.
