Larry Glenn Ballard

Ret. CMSgt Larry Glenn Ballard passed away peacefully in his home on September 27th 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was lovingly surrounded by his family as he joined his wife Hanna Ballard who preceeded him in death on November 24th 2017. He is also welcomed by his parents Willard and Ouida Ballard and a great grandson Steven Jarrod Ballard Hamilton. He is survived by a brother Robert “Bobby” Ballard, three sisters Ann Galbraith (Frankie) , Jean Duffer, and Sherry Wood (Andy) all of Lexington. He is also survived by a son Steven Ballard (Shuryee), and two daughters, Cindy Barrett (Dave), and Carin Moffitt, 11 grand children Christopher Ballard, Jessica Ballard, Samantha McAdams (Trey), Colby Dailey (Bryan), Kimberly Burrow, Austin Barrett, Chloe Barrett, Billy Pendleton, Nikki Ivy (Josh), Ernie Pendleton, Kimberly Pendleton, and 21 great grandchildren. Larry was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. His career began in 1959 after he graduated high school and after 3 tours in Vietnam, Korea, and countless other tours all over the world, he finally retired back to his hometown of Lexington in 1986. He married the love of his life Hannelore on April 6th 1962. He met Hannelore while stationed in Germany. They celebrated 55 wonderful years together before she passed away in November 2017. Larry was also known for his gardening and landscaping skills. While working at Green Thumb, he always took the time to help anyone that asked for his suggestions and opinions on gardening. Larry has made many life long friends near and far. Some are still with us and some have passed on. Their reunion will surely be a glorious one for he was always known to be the life of the party. No matter how anyone knew Larry, whether it be by one of his many nicknames such as “Spider” or “Chief”, from his hand shakin at the office “Pub” days, or from his infamous Larry’s ”Jug “o” fire”, he was truly a one of a kind son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. A memorial service, with full military honors, will be held at the Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads on October 12th 2018 at 1:30 p.m with Bro. Mark Pendergrass officiating.
