Levie Sue Melton

Levie “Sue” Cannon Melton, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, age 92, was called to her eternal rest on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025, at Henderson County Community Hospital. Born on Sept. 18, 1933, in Henderson County, her life journey was marked by devotion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to faith, family and friends. She loved very deeply and strived sacrificially to help make life better for those she loved. Having lost both her parents at the age of twelve, Sue lived with older siblings. She attended Sand Ridge Elementary School, Humes High School in Memphis, and Lexington High School. She married her childhood sweetheart, Gerald “Doc” Melton at the age of 15. Their devotion to each other was exemplified in their marriage of 63 years at the time of his death in 2012. Doc and Sue had one daughter, Debra Fesmire. Sue worked at Salant and Salant Garment Factory, Brown Shoe Company, and Century Magnetek. While her work ethic and dedication were recognized through her supervisory promotion, it was her commitment to her coworkers that had the most impact and created lifelong friendships. In 1962, Sue made her profession of faith in Christ and became a member of Sand Ridge Baptist Church. She loved the Lord, her church, her church family, and her community. Her genuine compassion and steady presence made her a cherished friend and confidant to many. Her kindness touched everyone she met, and she was always quick with a warm word or an encouraging smile. And in the right situations, she was just as quick to reveal to you her opinions. Sue was a remarkable companion and caregiver of her husband. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved unconditionally and served as a steadfast foundation for them and many other family members. She was a Cardinals baseball fan and had a passion for working in her yard, sewing, and cooking. She was known for her delicious homemade dumplings, biscuits, and blueberry muffins. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Debra Fesmire (the late Jimmy); three grandchildren: Derek Fesmire (Tiffany), Janna Beth Shaull (Bart), and Landon Fesmire (Christina); six great grandchildren: Jacob (Mary), Madelyn , Matthew, and Alex Fesmire, Carter (Elli) and Cooper Shaull; one great great grandchild, Lincoln Fesmire; and a very special niece, Ronda Melton Thompson (Mark). She was a proud "Susie” to her family. Each moment with them brought her boundless joy and happiness. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her. She now joins her departed loved ones, including her beloved husband, her parents, Ollie Franklin and Dora Bee Cannon, and seven siblings. Visitation will be at Reed’s Chapel on SATURDAY, Oct.11 from 11AM-8PM and will continue at Sand Ridge Baptist Church on SUNDAY, from 12:30PM until the funeral service at 2PM with burial to follow in Sand Ridge Cemetery.
