Myra Lykken

Myra Jo Dickson Lykken, age 49, of Lexington started her eternal life on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at her home in Lexington. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. A woman of strong faith and service, Myra loved her community and her church. Both in her professional and in private life, she spent her energy helping others oftentimes while suffering from illness herself. In her role of case manager with the Tennessee Department of Human Services, she touched the lives of many while helping them during their time of need. She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a bachelor's degree. In her private life, she devoted her time to her family, friends and her church community. She served as an elder at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lexington and also served on the board of the Senior Citizens Center. Her sweet spirit and natural smile will be remembered by her many friends and her family. Her motto was to "Do what is right and do what is good...be kind to others." The world could use more kind and gentle people like her. A woman of simple pleasures, she enjoyed traveling in the United States, photography, her pets, and watching the University of Tennessee football games. At home, she was surrounded by her many "fur babies" that kept her company and brought her hours of joy. Many in the community may remember when the Lexington Fire department offered their assistance and ladder when her parrot flew away. She climbed that ladder to reach her feathered friend just as she went to great lengths to help her human friends. She is survived by her husband, Terrell Lykken; her parents, Mike and Martha Jo Howard Dickson of Lexington; a sister; Michelle Dickson (David) Baker of Haymarket, Virginia, a niece; Michaela Baker of Nashville, Tennessee; two nephews; Drew (Cynthia) Baker of Lexington and Grant Baker of Haymarket, Virignia, her mother-in-law; Glenda Gail Lykken of Darden and a sister-in-law Nana Leah Lykken Roberts. Funeral services will be Monday, February 12 at 3 PM at Reeds Chapel. Interment to follow in the Mt. Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church on in the Shady Hill-Reagan Community near the family's farm. Visitation will be Sunday 2 PM-9 PM and Monday 9 AM until the 3 PM service.
