Roy Halters

Roy Halters, born on April 26, 1942, in Tennessee, passed away on December 1st, 2024, at the age of 82. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Roy lived a full life with passion, hard work, and a love for family. Roy grew up in Tennessee, where his roots ran deep and his family always held a special place in his heart. Roy spent his childhood creating cherished memories with his siblings and his cousins, often playing baseball together. Though he later moved to Illinois and met the love of his life, his late wife Elaine Halters. He carried his love for his Tennessee family with him and together they took many trips back to Tennessee creating wonderful memories. In Illinois, Roy was known as a hardworking man who took pride in his many roles. Over the years he built rewarding careers working on cars, working on machines at National Can, Schwinn, and later as a bus driver, where his hard work and dedication left a lasting impression on those he encountered. His strong work ethic was a legacy he passed on to his children, inspiring them to pursue their goals with determination. A devoted father and grandfather, Roy’s life revolved around his family. He spent countless years coaching his children’s teams, a role that brought him immense joy and allowed him to be a constant presence in their lives. Even after he was done coaching his children, he spent many hours on the fields or courts watching his grandchildren. He never stopped giving hitting or fielding advice though. Roy loved the outdoors. He found happiness in racoon hunting with his dogs and took great pride in caring for his chickens. Going to Poppy's house to feed the chickens was something that his grandchildren looked forward to. Roy is survived by his children, Roy Halters Jr (Pam), Georgia Walker (Matt), and Margaret Calabrese (John). He was a proud grandfather to John Halters, Justin Halters, Jacob Halters, Elaine Walker, Ryan Walker, Robert Calabrese, and Hunter Calabrese. He will be remembered for his kindness, his support for his family, and the countless memories he created with his loved ones. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Memorial services will on Saturday, June 7 at Reed’s Chapel at 3PM. Visitation will be from 1PM until service.
