James Lee Wood

May 2, 1970 - January 26, 2022

With profound sorrow, the family of James Lee Wood announces his unexpected passing in Lexington on January 26, 2022. Known by his loved ones as Jamie, he is survived by his sister, Lisa (Wood) Monvignier. Jamie was 51 years old. Jamie was born overseas in 1970 while his father, a veteran of the United States Air Force, was stationed in Germany. The family moved with the military to Florida, Texas, and Alaska over the years. The baby of the family, Jamie was a smart, curious and endearing child. He often spent summers in Trinidad, West Indies or in West Tennessee visiting family. Graduating from Bartlett High School in Anchorage, AK in 1988, he went on to live and pursue studies in California, Oregon and Wyoming before relocating to his father’s home state of Tennessee, where he took computer and business courses at UT Martin. As an adult, Jamie was shy by nature and often kept to himself. It wasn’t easy to get Jamie out of his shell, but those who knew him best will remember him for his smile, his witty and sometimes silly sense of humor, and his warm heart. A fan of 1980s music and movies, karaoke was his passion and he was thrilled when others encouraged him with music-related tips and song suggestions. Much to his delight, he came to be known in local karaoke circles as “AC/DC man.” Jamie put his own life on hold in 2014 at the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease in his father. For five years, the duration of the disease’s slow decline, Jamie devoted all of his time and attention to caring for his dad with a level of dedication, patience and compassion that could only be described as superhuman. Jamie was preceded in death by his parents, Claudette Ruby (Harracksingh) Wood and James Holland Wood. A graveside service will be held for Jamie at the Pleasant Grove Sweet Bud Cemetery on Friday, February 11th at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Jamie’s life and appreciation of the power of music to lift the spirits of the ailing with a donation to the Musicians on Call charity.
