Lorraine Medlin

Lorraine Medlin was born on December 27, 1922, in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, to Marie M. Thorne Bork and Edward F. Bork. She was an only child, as her brother Arnold only lived for 19 days. She graduated from Adams- Friendship High School and Madison Academy, Madison, Wisconsin. She met her future husband, E. Wayne Medlin, during her first employment at Zion, Illinois. They married in 1942. To this union was born two daughters, Naomi Lorraine Medlin Goodman and Jacqueline Iris Medlin McAdams. They lived in many areas. Wayne loved geography and history, and he worked at Carbon Carbide, Kodak, Pan American Airways, Chicago Bridge, and Richmond Shipyards. These places took them into Florida, California, North Dakota, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, etc. Lorraine eventually gave up being a hair stylist and worked as a bookkeeper, clerk, cashier, in gift shops, and in the board of education in Camden and Florida. Somehow Wayne was never satisfied and one day he said, “I am going to go back to school and be a minister.” He was always a worker in the churches they attended. Lorraine gave up two of her hair stylist licenses, however, they both enjoyed working in the churches, and that became her true calling. She participated in the “United Methodist Women”, “Susannas”, and various activities within the church. During this time, Lorraine’s daughter Naomi obtained her teaching degree from Martin and Murray State. She was a teacher at Clarksburg and Holiday. Naomi eventually passed away from cancer. Wayne’s last churches were Milledgeville and Morris Chapel. He suffered a heart attack in Jackson and passed away on the operating table in Memphis. Jackie was in school, so she and Lorraine had to move to Jackson where Jackie continued her education at Jackson State Community College. Since then, Jackie has been employed at Regional Hospital in the Radiology Department for 31 years. When Jackie married, Lorraine went to take care of her mother in Wisconsin. Her mother lived to be over 101. When her mother passed away, Lorraine came back to Tennessee to be near her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Jackie (David) McAdams, granddaughter Crystal Dawn McAdams and grandson Samuel David McAdams III (Trey), two grandsons of (the late Naomi) and Same Goodman, Samuel Albert (Danielle) Goodman III, Ranson Edward (Karen) Goodman, five great-grandchildren, Hunter Goodman, Alyssa Goodman, Madison Goodman, Grant Goodman, and Lane Parrott. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, July 22nd at 2PM at Reed’s Chapel in Lexington, with burial to follow at Camden Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Monday from 4PM-9PM and on Tuesday from 9AM until time of service.
